BCAMRT: Beyond Member Registration

Posted on October 14, 2012

Who exactly is the BCAMRT?  Why do we care?

Well for any MRT in BC, the BCAMRT, or British Columbia Association of Medical Radiation Technologists, is known as the body that collects our ‘dues’ to become registered members of the association. But what do these fees pay for?

Well, there are many advantages to becoming a member; perhaps the most important is they provide us with liability coverage.  This means that if there were ever an incidence that you’re involved in that went to court, you’d have your legal fees taken care of.  Hopefully this is never something you’ll have to face but at least you can take comfort in knowing that you have people on your side.

One other great perk is access to many personal and professional development opportunities. The BCAMRT works in conjunction with many of our educational institutes like BCIT, Camosun College, and the College of New Caledonia, as well as the CAMRT (the national association) to put on webinars, the Annual General Conference, and many other continuing education courses.

The BCAMRT Board of Directors are working very hard on connecting with people both inside and outside of its membership. One big goal is to create a stronger sense of identity among MRT’s and our place in the healthcare community.  It also seeks to create more collaborative partnerships to help expand continuing education opportunities to not only its members, but with those working outside the province.

As professionals in the MRT field, it’s high time our expert roles are recognized by other healthcare fields and the public.
